Megapost! Slurpees and Murder Record Club: Basti Basti Khak Uri Hai (plus: iRiffs! CDC Radio! Round 2 of the NHL Playoffs Begins Tonight! And More!)

Mine is a blogging style that lends itself not to short rapid-fire posts, but to extended absences and then a terrifying extended deluge of content all at once. It's like the old adage about buses: none for ages and then one finally shows up but it's still not the one you need, it's going to the Airport or something, so you have to wait downtown next to the same panhandler for another twenty minutes and he checks back with you another two or three times just in case you've picked up any more change since the last time he asked. App... apparently that adage is different in other cities?

Tonight's entry into the Slurpees and Murder Record Club is an exotic, mysterious album for you fine folks to puzzle over, but -- as is usually the case -- I've first got some self-aggrandizement and some sports chatter to attend to. So let's get started!

The 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs Begin Tonight

You'll recall from the last post that I had promised you all the visions of a brighter future, the beginnings of a light that may finally lead our city out of its perennial darkness and cast forth a shining path to civic success. And that was exactly what I had intended! But then I remembered that I had an Uptown column coming up, so I wrote my idea up for that instead and you'll have to wait until tomorrow to read it.

So, uh... my bad!

I had also been thinking I might liveblog the federal English-language debate, a beloved highlight of any election season, but then some family matters abruptly came up and kiboshed that plan. So... well. My bad again! But, not to worry; as you can tell from the title of this post, I haven't lost track of what's really important!

No, I'm not kidding about that order of priorities; remember that our federal leaders all agreed to move the date of the French-language debate, specifically to ensure that the telecast wouldn't conflict with the Canadiens game. I know you've probably already read about that, but I wanted to link to it for posterity's sake anyway. This is a real thing that actually happened. Grown-ups decided this.

Slurpees and Murder Record Club: Tell Us About Her, Shayla! (plus: Our Civic Left is Useless)

I come to you as a man under the weather, with a persistent cough, but also as a man with revelations to share. Important ones! Yes, I come to you now with a civic improvement plan so powerful, so visionary yet so necessary, that... that I won't even be telling you about it yet, because it deserves its own post. So it will have to wait, rather than get lost in the shuffle of everything else I insist on dropping on you today.

Slurpees and Murder Record Club: A Blessing and a Challenge to You (plus: Everything Remains Terrible)

We here at the Slurpees and Murder Record Club are about to kick it oldschool like you won't even believe. There will be some super-old, super-rare Steinbach sounds spreading from your speakers shortly, so let's get a move on through my usual opening battalion of plugs first:

Slurpees and Murder Record Club: Our Homes, Our Livestock, Even Our Children

What you are about to hear is... is, uh... it's definitely something.

I'm hesitant to try and spring it on you too quickly; I would describe this as an item that one should prepare oneself for, mentally. So let's you and I ease into it together, while I do my best to explain what we have on our hands here.
